A former student of Almo Collegio Borromeo in Pavia until 2008, Demetrio Maltese graduated with honors in Law in 2011 from the “Mediterranea” University of Reggio Calabria, with a thesis on “Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporations.”
He earned an LLM (Master of Laws) from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Corporate Law from Bocconi University in Milan, with a thesis on “Shareholder Conflicts of Interest in Shareholders’ Meetings of Joint Stock Companies,” supervised by Professor Mario Notari. During his doctoral studies, he was a Fulbright scholar at Harvard Law School (where he was also a Fellow in the Program on Corporate Governance) and a research fellow several times at the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg.
He has been a research fellow and, since 2019, a contract professor of Commercial Law at Bocconi University in Milan, teaching in the Law program, and since 2021 at the University of Brescia, teaching in the Business Administration program.
Admitted to the bar from 2016 to 2021, he has been a notary in the Milan District since 2022, first practicing in Nerviano and, from 2024, in Milan.
Demetrio is the author of several publications on corporate law and financial markets.
He serves on the editorial boards of The Italian Law Journal (ESI) and Rivista delle Società (Giuffré).
He is also a member of the Brescia Observatory on Commercial Jurisprudence since 2019 and of the Scientific Committee of the “Corporate Law Commission” of the Milan Notarial Council since 2022.
After collaborating from 2020 to 2024 with the Giamalex – Notary Associates firm, Demetrio is now a founding partner of FM Notai.
